Reflecting on my Writing Center Experience
Overall,
my experiences at the writing center have been very helpful and positive. I
visited the writing center during second semester for my research paper. Katie
Campbell was my writing fellow. She knew what she was talking about and helped
me make my paper better in a useful and efficient way. The focus of this
meeting in the writing center was to get help paraphrasing and properly using
my citations in the form of in-text citations. I used this meeting to move the
piece forward by carefully listening to Katie’s advice and applying all of it
to my paper to make it better.
Before
my visit to the writing center, my in- text citations were not correctly cited.
After my visit to the writing center, my in- text citations were correctly
cited and in proper format. After this visit, not only did my paper have good
in-text citations, but I also knew how to do them correctly for future research
papers. Paraphrasing is another thing that when writing a research paper, I
have trouble with. Katie gave me suggestions on how to make my sentences
strong, well-developed sentences, while also preventing plagiarism. Before my
visit to the writing center my paper was very similar to my sources in the way
of sentence structure. After my visit to the writing center, this aspect of the
paper was not perfect, but it was definitely better. My experiences at the
writing center during second semester helped me to become a better writer and
were very beneficial to me as a writer.
