Hits and Misses

Winter time is one of my favorite times of the year because it means Christmas is near and you get to spread the Christmas cheer for all the hear. Winter time in Louisiana isn't always exactly a winter wonderland. The weather can go from being hot and humid one day to cold and windy the next day. On those cold winter days, I like to drink hot chocolate while spending time with either my friends or family.

As Christmas is getting closer, it means no school for two whole weeks. A time to spend time with family and friends and not worry about the stress of school. I like sleeping in late every day for those two weeks and then waking up early just on Christmas day for the Christmas festivities to begin such as eating Christmas lunch, being with my family, laughing, having a great time and opening presents. I love winter time because of the weather and Christmas.

This piece of writing was a blog post for my English I blog. The topic was "free post" and I liked this because I got to write about my topic of choice. This blog post was written in December of 2016, so it was not one of my better pieces of writing. Although I do not feel like this is my best piece of writing, I do consider it a "hit" because I feel that I used imagery to describe winter.

Republican and Democratic leaders continue their tug of war over revisions to the Obama Health Care Reform. President Donald Trump has made it a top priority to repeal and replace Obamacare. President Trump and his Administration have been working closely with Republican Party leaders, with House Speaker Paul Ryan, taking the lead. Their efforts to create a better plan for healthcare and make it more fair for all Americans, has hit a roadblock as the GOP pulled their bill in its existing form off of the House floor on Friday. This move was a result of not having enough votes to allow the bill in its proposed form to continue through the process. This move was also done to protect President Trump from the humiliation of not getting his revisions passed.

I chose this article because I feel like healthcare is one of the most important things we face in today's world. I think it is a smart move and good strategy by President Trump and his GOP allies. It is better to delay the passing of a bill when the bill is probably going to fail rather than hurrying to get it passed just to be done with it. This move will allow both parties to go back to the drawing board to see if they can come up with a plan that will be beneficial for all citizens.

This is another blog post that I feel is a "hit". This was a blog post that we had to choose a political topic to write about. I am not very good at writing about politics at all, but I feel like this blog post was longer than my usual ones because I enjoyed writing about the topic. I feel like I understand what I was writing about. I feel like this political blog post was a "hit" for me.

The next book we will be reading in English class is "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare. I strongly agree with the statement, "If something is destined to happen, it will happen without your interference". This is a statement that my mom has always said to me. She always tells me that if something is meant to happen, then things will all work out just not to worry about it. I have had an experience where I had to let things happen without my interference and see how everything worked out. When I tried out for the competitive dance team, I really wanted to make the team. The only thing I could do was try my best at tryouts and if I was meant to be on the team, then I would make the team. I ended up making the team and was very excited about that. I had to not worry about if I was going to make it or not and let whatever was supposed to happen happen.

I disagree with the statement, "Who we are--our essential character and temperament--is fixed and unchangeable". I do not believe this statement is true at all. I think if a person wants to change the way they act if they are a mean or rude person, then the person has the capability to do that. If a person is very nice and always happy, they also have the capability to change that purposefully or un-purposefully. This is a statement that I just disagree with.

One last piece of writing that I feel was a "hit" for me was the blog post in which we had to anticipate our next book. I feel like this blog post was a "hit" for me because I explained why I agreed or disagreed with the statement in a way for the readers to easily understand and I gave my opinion.

Although I did have some "hits" in my writing throughout freshman year, I also had quite a few "misses". Because of these "misses" I have grown as a writer. Without these "misses" I would have nothing to improve in my writing. An example of one of my "misses" is in the literary analysis. This paper was just not very good for me. My thesis did not connect well with the points in my paper. Another one of my "misses" was my research paper. This paper was a struggle for me because I was out from being in the hospital for a long time and this paper was all a confusing process. One main reason it was a "miss" was because I did not do a good job of embedding my quotes or shortening my in-text citations. I had quite a few "misses" over the course of freshman year.
