Reading
I have grown a lot as a reader throughout freshman year. In the beginning of freshman year, I was not a very strong reader and I just read a book because I had to. Now, at the end of the year, I focus more on the deeper meaning of the book. I try to read and really comprehend what I am reading instead of just reading because I have to. I have read multiple books over the course of the year such as, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, The Selection by Kiera Cass, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon, Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and Macbeth by William Shakespeare. That is a lot of books for me to read over the course of one school year. The first time I ever annotated a book was during freshman year. It was the book, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. I had never annotated a book before and my annotations were all over the place. Sometimes I had either too many annotations, or not enough annotations. I really learned how to annotate and knew what I was doing with my annotations by the end of the book. The second book I had to annotate was, Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. By the time it was time to annotate this book, I knew exactly what I was doing. My annotations were the perfect amount and they were all relevant to the book. I really got a good understanding of how to annotate over the course of freshman year. I grew a lot as a reader during my freshman year.
