Learning About Myself as a Writer This Year

I have learned a lot about myself as a writer from the beginning of freshman year up to the end of freshman year. At the beginning of freshman year, my writing was always short and sweet and to the point. This was most likely because I wasn’t used to having to write long papers or detailed blog posts. By the end of freshman year, since I am now used to having to write detailed two paragraph blog posts every week and the occasional long paper, my writing is longer and it comes natural to me to have to make the piece of writing long and detailed. Another thing I have changed about my writing throughout freshman year is using detailed, vivid imagery. I feel like this gives the readers a feel for the piece of writing I am writing. Some improvements I have made in my writing throughout the year is making my sentences have more detail and have a better sentence structure. I have learned many things about myself as a writer that I did not know over the course of freshman year.

A Portrait of Myself as a Writer Now

I am a writer who struggles, but always tries to do my best. I am a writer who tries to use vivid detail. I am a writer who thinks deeply and thoughtfully about the words I type on to the page. I am a writer who doesn’t care what other people think about my writing, I write what comes from inside my heart. I am a writer who is very passionate about my writing. I am a writer who struggles with reaching the length requirement, but will always try my hardest to do so. I am a writer who likes to write.

She knew what she was talking about and helped me make my paper better in a useful and efficient way. The focus of this meeting in the writing center was to get help paraphrasing and properly using my citations in the form of in-text citations. I used this meeting to move the piece forward by carefully listening to Katie’s advice and applying all of it to my paper to make it better.           Before my visit to the writing center, my in- text citations were not correctly cited. After my visit to the writing center, my in- text citations were correctly cited and in proper format. After this visit, not only did my paper have good in-text citations, but I also knew how to do them correctly for future research papers. Paraphrasing is another thing that when wr...
